Our individual projects for the laser cutter included a cover and back cover for a notepad, a design to put on a water bottle, and a 2D object that can be made into a 3D object.
Here are my original designs for my notebook and waterbottle.
Notebook Covers
I started my notebook covers by placing two rectangles next to each other, 4.25 by 5.5 for the cover outlines. I made sure the color and outline were right for them to be cut out. I decided I would theme my notebook around the show "Death Note." I added images I liked that fit my theme. I made sure to change them to vector images. I then decided to cut out a skull on the cover, because in the show, Death Notes are owned by gods of death. At that point, I had finished my notepad covers.
Water Bottle Design
To begin my water bottle design, made an outline of my constraints for the image. I then added text in a font I liked saying "Toilet Bound Hanako Kun," The title of the show I was designing my water bottle around. I then added two images of the min characters and turned them into vector images, positioning them how I liked. Finally, in order to make sure the design worked with a bottle, I rotated the design 270 degrees. After that, I got rid of the outline, because I didn't like how it looked with my design.
3D object
This next task was pretty simple. All we had to do was look through Thingiverse and download it. I decided on a cool design featuring a cat. It worked with Illustrator and needed to be cut by the laser. All I had to do then was open it into Illustrator. Below is my design.
Reflection
I found it very enjoyable designing more things through Illustrator. This gave me a much deeper understanding of Illustrator and its mechanics. I even learned how to make something 3D from 2D objects! It's so amazing how many things can be made from the comfort of your own home... literally in my case.
